Cripus Attucks was a black slave and dock worker who played an important role in the fight for independence. In 1770, a group of angry people gathered in front of the Custom House on King Street. The group had accused a soldier of using the butt of his gun on a boy who made slurrin gremarks to his officer. The British officer, Captain Preston that day, and eight other British soldiers came to the aid of the one accused. The town fire-bell rang causing more people to come into the street and they were all throwing snowballs at the soldiers. The soldiers panicked and killed five civilians. Cripus Attucks was one of them.

  1. I love how you used a bunch of different fonts. I hope that in the future chapters of our book we learn more of the integral part the African Americans of that time played. I learned alot. Thanks!

  2. your post gave a lot about slaves during the American Revolution, something that I hoped the book would do and was disappointed that they didn't. they played a huge role in the war, and it was important (and unfortunate) that Crispus Attucks was shot during the massacre, he could have also played a huge role in the war.

  3. I keep telling people that their blog post does a good job of emphasizing the side of the story that isn't necessarily well represented...and, not to sound redundant, but your posts seem to have done the same. Unfortunately, African Americans are often overlooked, but, as your posts indicate rather effectively, they played a very significant role in the Revolution for both sides.

  4. good job. The book really was lacking in this information! I didn't know that about the spies or having blacks as skilled workers or people working in the navy. I learned a lot! For sure I'll be looking back again before the test.~ lala

  5. When I imagined fighing in the Revolution, I had (as most poeple do) thought of white men vs. other white men. Thanks for reminding us what an important part black people played as well! As with the Natives, the book almost completely overlooked the contributions that this minority offered in the war...

  7. This post was really interesing. It's crazy to think that the book neglected to mention so much of this information. It's a lot like the women of this time... People don't realize how much they influenced the war. Thanks!

  9. Interesting post! I was surprised to learn that blacks were a last resort for the British. Had the British used them from the beginning, they could have won!

  10. Lots of useful and new info. It is really good and has so much info the book left out. Without this we would have no idea that African Americans were even involved.
